About The Speaker

Jody Steiger

Jody Steiger is a lighting designer, producer and theatrical director and has participated in more than five hundred national and international productions. During her period as Director of the National Theater of Costa Rica she created the programs of Theater at Midday (Teatro al Mediodia) and Music at Sunset (Música al Atardecer) and worked to open the Theater to a wider and more diverse audience.

Throughout her career, she received several awards including the National Award in Theater, the Ancora Award in Theatre, the most outstanding Lighting Award from BCArte and a Creativity and Excellence Grant from the Florida Ice & Co. Farm to produce and direct the theatrical production Yerma in the National Theatre of Costa Rica. In 2009 she was named Cultural Person of the Year by the major Costa Rican newspaper La Nación.

Steiger is Artistic Advisor and member of the board of directors of Teatro Espressivo, and a member of the boards of directors of Asociación AcciónArte (organization that coordinates the Piensa en Arte program for the Ministry of Public Education), of ICOM-CR (International Counsel of Museums) of the ARDE Foundation – Art for Development and the Orchestra for the Americas (YOA).

Jody Steiger is a Doctor of Education with an emphasis on the role of the arts in education and social development.
