Professional Women’s Network of Costa Rica

Dear PWNCR Members and Friends, We would like to thank everyone who joined us at our Open House on the 18th. Special thanks to Lisa Foulger for facilitating the ice-breaking session, and to Gail Nystrom for introducing us to the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation and the lovely girls who opened up about their experiences and got many of us in tears after helping us tap into our own histories. A big thanks also to everyone who donated prizes:

  • 🎁 Ingrid Fatjo Art & Fashion – Our new member Ingrid Alvarado donated a gorgeous handmade handkerchief of her own creation
  • 🎁 Four Hearts Arts – the teen girls who make jewelry as part of an initiative of the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation donated a beautiful necklace

Last but not least, the PWNCR Leadership would like to give a big round of applause to our President, Sarah Joy Staude, to Muni Figueres, our Vice President, to Rommy Herrera, Director of Memberships, and to Gabriela Gutierrez, our Director of Events, for putting together such an amazing event. PWNCR April Event: An Exploration of Dementia

When: Saturday, April 15, 2023 Time: 9:30 to 11:30 am Where: Tin Jo Restaurant Speaker: Katya De Luisa An Exploration of Dementia Is someone you love at risk for or already struggling with dementia? Are you ready to learn how to best understand and support them?

As a dementia educator and caregiver coach for over 23 years, Katya De Luisa provides information and training centered on holistic approaches to eldercare. Her book, “Journey through the Infinite Mind: The Science and Spirituality of Dementia”, has been published in both English and Spanish and is a forerunner of its kind. Katya is presently the coordinator of the volunteer Dementia Education Initiative for Rural Costa Rica for Tico families living in outlying areas of the country.

After this event you will be able to: 1.    Identify causes and symptoms of dementia 2.    Learn about healthy brain function and how it’s affected by dementia 3.    Understand dementia behaviors 4.    Value the importance of heart-based communication 5.    Empathize with what the person with dementia is experiencing ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Katya De Luisa is considered to be one of Costa Rica’s early ex-pat pioneers. She’s resided here since 1980 and is a nationalized Costa Rican citizen. She is an artist, author, and freelance writer whose articles focus on healthy aging and dementia. We’d love to have you join us – register now (click here!) so that we can get an accurate head count!

Entrance cost: 2,000 colones for members 6,000 colones for non-members Exact change or bank transfer is appreciated! (Also for non-members, you can become a member at this event!

Notes: If you are driving, you can park at the Parqueo Musical – they have good rates and if you eat at Tin Jo you will also get a discount. This Waze point will take you right to the Parqueo Musical! After the event you will have the option to stay for lunch at Tin Jo Asian Restaurant – a great networking opportunity with other members and friends of the PWNCR! We will take lunch orders during the event but please feel free to peruse Tin Jo’s GENERAL MENU, VEGETARIAN MENU and GLUTEN-FREE MENU here!

The Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation

 

The Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation invites you to share in the celebration of 25 years since its establishment. CRHF has been working tirelessly since 1997 to find creative and realistic solutions to complex challenges related to situations of poverty and inequality. Our member Gail Nystrom is the CRHF’s founder and Executive Director and is honored to invite you to the Foundation’s Celebration of Gratitude, Accomplishments, Hope and Commitment, a gala event, to be held at Costa Rica Marriott Hotel Hacienda Belen on Sunday, May 7, from 4:00 to 8:30pm.

During the event you will be able to:

  • Participate in an artisan fair and buy crafts made by people who are part of CRHF initiatives
  • Interact with members of CRHF communities at exhibits demonstrating how goals are met
  • Understand how the Spiral Model of Development is the CRHF’s guiding principle
  • Enjoy three short theater presentations
  • Learn from groups of children, youth, teachers and soccer players
  • Receive a gift
