MAY 2023 UPDATE

This month we had a wonderful event with Elizabeth Seaward. Elizabeth lead us to question our concept of happiness in order to build a more realistic understanding and open up the possibility to create a practical approach to its construction. The event was practical and introspective and helped us come up with a definition of what happiness means to each of us.

Some Thank Yous:

  • Thank you, Elizabeth, for sharing with us!
  • Thank you to the Leadership Team who works very hard behind-the-scenes to make each of our events special and enjoyable for all!
  • A huge thank you to the donors of some special door prizes for our May event: Our Director of Membership Emeritus Helen Griffin donated a RFID Blocking credit card wallet with a beautiful design.
  • We also had art cards with tropical birds from Ana Life Design. Our member Ana Matamoros is an artist and interior designer, inspired by Costa Rica. She loves colorful designs and beautiful spaces and you can follow her on her Ana Life Design Instagram.
  • Thank you also to Doc Harmony for donating a gorgeous gift basket! Doc Harmony’s company is called Healthy Energy Amazing Life (HEAL). To learn more about all the amazing natural health products available, please click here to visit the website. Please note, wholesale accounts are available to PWNCR members!

To promote your business with a door prize donation, please send a WhatsApp message to Jacqui Monacell at 8878 4932. We are currently seeking door prizes for our June events and beyond!

We are moving toward videotaping our events so that the PWNCR can continue to build its online presence and to have the recordings available as a membership benefit (click here to subscribe to our PWNCR YouTube channel!). Thank you to our members who have helped secure the loan of equipment. Thank you also to the donors who have contributed cash so far to this separate fund for having an audiovisual professional at our live events to handle this task. Please consider a contribution toward the audiovisual fund so that we can maintain our current membership fee!

In June we will have two very special events, one virtual and the other in person at Tin Jo. Be sure to save your spot for both!

PWNCR June In-Person Event:
Latest Marketing Trends

When: June 17, 2023
Time: 9:30 to 11:30 am
WhereTin Jo Restaurant
Speaker: Anabelle Durán

Marketing is such a broad subject, and during these changing times, Marketing experts have had to become “experts at everything”. As of late, Marketing experts are being forced into technology, data analysis, psychology, innovation, industrial design, you name it.

For entrepreneurs and small companies, there are some key learnings that can be transferred from alternative industries, such as grocery retail. In this session, Anabelle will be covering different topics about the Marketing strategy, and, above all, about the core of all businesses – the clients!

Some key take-aways you will be sure to incorporate into your own professional career:

  • Not letting your career block your passion!
  • Make your passion profitable!
  • Don’t let the ROI (Return on Investment) kill your value proposition!
  • Keep it simple!
  • The customer IS your passion!

About the Speaker

Passionate about retail, with a 17-year career in Auto Mercado, Anabelle Durán has been leading the Marketing Department for more than 10 years and recently the new Customer Experience unit. She is always looking for creative ways to connect the brand with the hearts of her customers.  In 2019, she entered the Top 100 Business Leaders in Costa Rica list for the first time (ranked by Merco) in position #23; the highest position for a new entry in the ranking. She is also a frequent visitor of South by SouthWest (SXSW® is best known for its conference and festivals that celebrate the convergence of tech, film, music, education, and culture).

PWNCR Member Feature:
Katya De Luisa

Katya has resided in Costa Rica for 43 years. She is considered one of the early pioneers in this country’s development. Her horseback nature tour through Manuel Antonio National Park in 1980 was a forerunner in eco-tourism and she published the country’s first tourist maps. Katya also created a non-profit organization for street children which Patronato, Costa Rica’s child welfare, modeled for their programs.

In 2001 she returned to the USA for a few years. After developing a picture communication therapy for those with dementia, she partnered with the local Alzheimer’s Association and began caregiver training and seminars and presented at several international conferences on aging. This started her 22-year career as a dementia educator and caregiver advisor.

As a freelance writer, her articles focus on healthy aging, dementia issues, and raising self-awareness.
