Join the Professional Women’s Network of Costa Rica for our June event, a special field trip!
What to expect:
We will take a personal tour of the gardens of The Ark Botanical Garden and Restaurant with the founder, Harve (Tommy) Thomas. We will learn about the medicinal plants and native plants of Costa Rica, as well as many others from around the world. The tour takes about two hours and covers about 4 kilometers of paths through the gardens. Please note that some paths are not paved and there is some uneven ground as well as some uphill and downhill walking. Please wear cool comfortable clothes and closed-toed walking shoes and pack a sun hat, poncho or umbrella, sun block, insect repellent, and a water bottle.
Over lunch, our PWNCR member and The Green Ark Foundation’s board member Michelle Coffey will share more in depth with us about the foundation, as this foundation is a Costa Rican implementing foundation. Michelle will go over the definition of a private implementing foundation, how it differs from a public charity, and what The Ark Botanical Garden and Restaurant is doing to stay accountable to their donors and measure their success.
You will have an opportunity to purchase plants in the nursery of the farm after lunch as well.
