– POSTPONED – Art Tour with Florencia Urbina

For the month of April we have prepared an in-person guided tour of the Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo, MADC  (Museum of Contemporary Art and Design in English), which is housed at the Centro Nacional de Cultura (CENAC) in downtown San José (avenida 3, calle 15). Our private tour guide will be renowned Costa Rican artist Florencia Urbina, who will take us through:

1. A brief history of the MADC
2. ⁠Museum infrastructure in CR: how they’re organized
3. ⁠The State Art Collections
4. ⁠Private art academies and the Escuela Casa del Artista (ECA)
5. ⁠Current art competitions and how new artists are being found through them

Tour timeline:

9:30-9:45am – Welcome at the main entrance of the museum (in front of Parque España). CLICK HERE for location.
9:45-10am – Short icebreaker
10am – introducing Florencia Urbina, our guest speaker
10:05am -Tour around the museum
11:05am – Q&A
11:25am – wrap up and PWNCR announcements
11:30am – end of formal event
11:30am On our way to lunch (optional) we will pass by Florencia´s atelier where she will show us her work and she will have small art articles for sale

12:00pm Lunch at Café Mundo (optional)

Please note that our monthly running costs as an association include Zoom Pro, our email program, accountant retainer fees, social media and website services, etc. We would very much appreciate if you would bring some cash to donate toward these costs. Suggested donations are: 3,000 colones for members, 6,000 colones for non-members. Exact change or bank transfer is appreciated! Also, for non-members, you can become a member at this event!

Museum entrance:

MADC: 1,800 colones for nationals and residents 6 yo and up. Children under 5 and seniors don’t pay entrance. There are student discounts.

Lunch (optional):

We will walk to Café Mundo in Barrio Amón (3-minute walk). Starters: from 3,800 colones. Pizza & Pasta: from 7,500 colones. Mains: from 8,900 colones. Taxes included.
