Understanding Vital Aspects of Costa Rica Law

Explanation of the “Código de Trabajo” which is the “Legal Labor Code” on which all labor situations are based on and ruled by.

  • Responsibilities and rights of the employer and employee according to the Labor Law.
  • Labor contracts in Costa Rica, both verbal and written.
  • Schedules, payment rates for different jobs.
  • Ways to pay workers: salary, professional services, by task, etc.
  • House maids / gardeners / guards, regulatory labor relation.
    Holidays in Costa Rica. Obligations on employer and employees.
  • Social obligations of employers towards employees. CCSS and INS registration – Vacation and Aguinaldo (thirteenth month)
  • Ins and outs about a Judicial Labor trial.

And will be answering any questions and clarifying doubts.

About The Speaker

Cecilia Tristán

Cecilia Tristán was born in Louisiana, New Orleans nearly seven decades ago. My Costa Rican father met my mother, while he was studying medicine at Tulane University. After they graduated they moved to this beautiful country. They had five children, three were born in the U.S. and the last two were born in Costa Rica. I have lived all my life here, mostly in San José, and I have dual citizenship. I have had the great fortune of being decisive at the right moment and this has contributed greatly to the success. I have had in the businesses I have engaged in (ceramic shop, clothing store, custom rug factory, and educational institute.
I initially graduated as a Social Worker, later as a Business Manager and last I became a Lawyer and Public Notary. I also became an airplane pilot to manage a Maintenance and Repair airplane FAA station, at Tobias Bolaños Airport in Pavas, San José.

Currently and since 2014 I have established my Law Firm in Atenas, providing Legal and Notarial Services, Translation (English/Spanish), Real Estate Brokerage, Financing on Properties, and Property Management.

In addition I am the proud mother of three adult children, and grandmother to four wonderful grandsons and a beautiful granddaughter.
