PWNCR Social Responsibility
Supporting the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation
At PWNCR, we are proud to support the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, led by our member Gail Nystrom, in their mission to support at-risk populations and improve the quality of life for those in need. This foundation has made significant contributions to our community, providing vital services to those who need it most.
In the past, our members have been actively involved in fundraising events, volunteering, and spreading awareness for the foundation’s important initiatives. This has been a rewarding opportunity to give back to our community and make a meaningful difference.
Additionally, PWNCR is proud to have sponsored Gail Nystrom’s book, The Moon is a Woman Thing, which will soon be available in print. This book highlights important issues and provides an inspiring perspective on empowering women and communities.

We’re excited to invite you to the upcoming Gala to Support the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation, which will take place on Sunday, May 11th, from 4 to 8 PM at the Hotel Marriott in San Antonio de Belén.
This special evening will include a delicious buffet dinner and a variety of entertainment, including:
- A silent auction featuring beautiful artwork from local artists
- A performance by the children of the foundation
- A lively dance performance to keep the spirit high
Ticket Prices:
- $250 per person
- $400 per couple
- $2,500 for a table of ten
An open bar will be available at additional expense, and all proceeds will support the foundation’s mission of improving the lives of vulnerable populations in Costa Rica.
Join us for a fun evening, great food, and a chance to make a meaningful impact!

Call to Action:
We encourage PWNCR members and friends to attend this event and show support for this great cause. Join us for an evening of fun and charity while helping strengthen the foundation’s impact. You can also get involved in future community initiatives by contacting the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation for volunteering opportunities and other contributing ways.

Special Donor Spotlight
By Phylliss Crist
Gretchen Treuting is a retired graphic artist, creative teacher of mathematics, and photographer. She participated actively in PWNCR during our early years, creating logos and even presenting one program for us.
During April, as Rommy Herrera and I prepared for the membership section of the PWNCR monthly meeting, we asked Gretchen to help us design the special carrying cards for Premium Memberships. These personalized cards entitle the bearer to attend any general meeting without additional charge!
Gretchen designed the card, using our own special logo, and then spent time making version after version and coaching me in getting my (somewhat ornery) computer to print each card just the way we wanted it to be. It was an example of real networking in action.
For donating her time, talent, expertise, and patient supervision, we thank Gretchen very specially!
(In case you haven’t noticed this special membership category, it is described above in this newsletter
…Check it out!)
Community Challenge: May Networking Goal
We’re excited to continue the momentum from our first PWNCR Community Challenge!
For May, we challenge each member to:
- Connect with one new member you’ve never spoken with before.
- Schedule a 20-minute virtual coffee chat to get to know each other better.
- Share one professional resource, tip, or introduction that could benefit them—let’s support each other’s growth!
- Share your experience with our WhatsApp group using the tag #PWNCRconnect so we can celebrate these connections together.
Continuation from April:
Congratulations to everyone who already kicked off the April challenge! Keep up the great work and continue building those connections.
Prepare for Our May Event Networking Session:
Get ready for another engaging live networking session at our May event (Fraud in the Age of AI: How Big Data is Changing Our Game). We’ll create more opportunities for you to meet like-minded professionals, share insights, and expand your network.
Why This Matters:
As we’ve learned, “weak ties” (connections outside your immediate network) can lead to some of the most unexpected and rewarding professional opportunities. So, let’s make this challenge a fun and valuable part of our PWNCR experience!
Challenge Reward:
Members who complete the challenge will be entered to win a one-hour business strategy session with a PWNCR Leadership Team member of their choice.
Let’s keep connecting, collaborating, and supporting each other as we grow together!
