PWNCR‘s Healthy Living Hub
Thank you for investing your time in your health. The world is full of people suffering from chronic health problems. There are many ways to prevent, improve, or even cure them.
Remember that prevention is much easier than all other routes in health. A healthy body begins with at least these 5 extremely important habits that we can develop, but no “medicine,” natural or otherwise, can cure a body that doesn’t include them. Consider asking a companion to join you in your new health journey.
These 5 habits are:
1. Prioritize quality sleep at night: Search for sleep hygiene tips online for more information. Nothing affects your health more than sleep for better or worse.
- Research shows that people who sleep an average of 6 hours or less, compared to those who sleep 7 or 8 hours, have more body fat, less muscle, more glucose spikes, more tendency for high blood pressure, and higher cholesterol and triglycerides.
2. Drink water: There are many free apps that can tell you how often and how much water to drink, and how to tell if you are appropriately hydrated.
- Drink water from the moment you wake up (before drinking coffee) and throughout the day.
- A sign that you are sufficiently hydrated is urinating every 2-3 hours throughout the day. You can stop drinking water an hour before bedtime to avoid disrupting your sleep quality.
3. Move your body: At least 20 minutes of movement feeling your heart rate increase and your breathing change.
- Scientific studies show that 150 minutes per week is the minimum to keep a human body in a healthy state.
- Increasing your heart rate and breathing allows oxygen to be delivered to your organs and muscles, helps balance your glucose and hormones, keeps your bones strong, and detoxifies your systems.
4. Eat colorful vegetables daily: At least one green vegetable and three other colored vegetables everyday (white ones don’t count). This provides your body with the range of macro, micro and phyto nutrients to build healthy cells, remove unhealthy cells, and support healthy metabolism and immune responses.
- It’s important to nourish the body, not just fill the belly. Food is the only way the body receives nutrients.
- The color varieties in fruits and vegetables represent different proteins, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fats, fiber and critical nutrients:
- Orange foods (carrots, sweet potatoes) support the immune system, eyes, skin and heart
- Red foods (beets, tomatoes) reduce risk of diabetes, osteoporosis, and high cholesterol
- Green vegetables strengthen bones, boost immunity, and promote healthy skin while supporting digestion
5. Stress Management: No modern human lives stress-free. Luckily there are tools to help. 10 minutes of daily screen-free quiet time to meditate, practice breathing, pray, practice gratitude, journal, yin yoga, or read something motivating and positive are some of the most common.
- It’s important to have several practices to engage in during stressful times and also to use as maintenance during less stressful times to give the mind and body moments of relaxation and peace. This is critical for healing or recovering from any illness and for prevention.
Expert Tip from Geri: “The most effective health change is the one you’ll actually maintain. Start with just one of these habits and practice it consistently for three weeks before adding another. Small, sustainable changes lead to remarkable long-term results.”
PWNCR Member Impact Story
How the PWNCR Transformed My Business and Confidence
By Sarah Joy
When I joined the Professional Women’s Network of Costa Rica (PWNCR) in 2019, I had little formal networking experience. I didn’t fully understand how it could benefit me personally or help grow my travel planning business, Boyero Travels, which creates custom-crafted adventures in Costa Rica. Although I had done some work in sales throughout my professional career, I always preferred genuine conversations over hard selling. At the time of becoming a member, I assumed my existing network knew what I did and would support me when possible.
However, my experience with PWNCR has shown me that:
1. My circle was smaller than I realized.
2. I wasn’t effectively sharing about my business.
3. I lacked confidence in promoting my services.

Since joining the PWNCR, I have gradually developed my networking skills and expanded my reach. This community has given me the confidence to authentically and effectively share my business in new circles and recognize networking opportunities I would have previously overlooked. By being an active member and consistently attending events, I have maximized the benefits of networking, rather than remaining on the sidelines. Engaging regularly has helped me build deeper relationships and gain more visibility within the community.
Being an active member of PWNCR has connected me with incredible individuals who have become not only clients but also friends. Many now rely on me to curate adventures for themselves and their visiting family and friends. Additionally, through ongoing reflection on my work, I have come to personally value what I do even more and feel a greater sense of pride in my business. This was boosted in large part by our member Michale Gabriel and receiving coaching from her as part of her storytelling business, Story By Design! I’m deeply grateful to these supporters who have championed both me and my business—especially Victoria Schwarz, Doc Harmony, and Alysha Tribbett! I also appreciate every member who has referred their loved ones to me—what an honor it is to serve them.
