PWNCR Leadership: Introducing our new President, Muni Figueres
PWNCR‘s new President, Muni Figueres, is a dynamic and passionate individual who combines a zest for adventure with a deep commitment to justice and equity. With a track record of transformative contributions both personally and professionally, Muni has made a notable impact in various fields, driven by a belief in the power of collective action and a love for exploration.
A Life of Adventure
Muni’s life is a testament to bold endeavors and unyielding curiosity. Her journey has been nothing short of extraordinary, from walking from Costa Rica to Ushuaia and back, to biking across the United States from Oregon to Virginia Beach. The quest for adventure has taken Muni to 70 countries, exploring the heights of Mount Everest on both the Nepalese and Tibetan sides. Each experience has not only broadened her horizons but also deepened her commitment to social causes, demonstrated by her donation of hair for wig-making on three occasions.
Education and Professional Development
Muni’s journey of self-discovery and learning began with a foundational education at a private elementary school, followed by a more diverse experience at a public high school. Academic pursuits led to a degree in Industrial Engineering, a Master’s in Environmental Science, and postgraduate studies in Cancer Biology – each step reflecting a dedication to understanding and addressing complex challenges.
Making a Difference Professionally
Muni’s professional path is marked by leadership and innovation. As President of the Board of Directors at Group-Agro Industrial San Cristobal, and General Manager at Antojitos San Pedro Restaurant, Muni has led transformative initiatives, turning the restaurant into a beacon of sustainability and eco-friendliness. Recognized with awards like the “Compromiso con la Excelencia” and “Bandera Azul,” these efforts highlight a commitment to environmental excellence and woman-centered business practices.
Additional roles include contributions as a Student Assistant at the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University, and a Teacher Assistant at the University of the District of Columbia. Managing a Bed and Breakfast in Victoria, Canada, and founding M&M Furniture showcase Muni’s entrepreneurial spirit, while serving as Director of the Electric Vehicles Program at the Costa Rican Foundation for Sustainable Development underscores her commitment to sustainable innovation. Advising the Second Vice President of Costa Rica, Rebeca Grynspan, on legislative initiatives further exemplifies Muni’s dedication to gender equality and climate action.
Leading for Change
Leadership and advocacy are central to Muni’s mission and her contributions extend to various organizations including the Restaurant Chamber “CACORE,” The Tourism Chamber “CANATUR,” “UCCAEP” Union of Private Sector Chambers, and the Citizen Advisory Council on Climate Change “5C.”
In every role and adventure, Muni embodies a spirit of impact and transformation, continually seeking ways to make a meaningful difference in the world. We are very lucky to have her as President of our organization and we are sure she will continue to make a positive impact at PWNCR as well as in all of her other activities.
