Jacqueline Monacell, cofounder and president of *Your Costa Rica Contact*, has been living in Costa Rica since the early 1990s, driven by a lifelong passion for Latin American cultures. Growing up in Pittsford, NY, her journey began with an exchange program in Spain, followed by a BA in International Affairs and Spanish from the University of New Hampshire. After graduating in 1992, Jacqueline moved to Costa Rica to pursue her dream of living in Latin America, where she built a career in international business. By 1995, she became Central American regional manager for Mitchell International and later expanded her expertise in the automotive and insurance sectors across Central America.
In 2005, Jacqueline founded *Your Costa Rica Contact*, a relocation and consulting company catering to people moving to Costa Rica. Combining her background in the automotive industry with Car Doc’s repair expertise, she created a unique service focused on vehicle transactions for expatriates. Her company has since grown, offering a wide range of relocation services, with a commitment to delivering trustworthy and transparent assistance. Jacqueline, who is bilingual and holds dual citizenship, enjoys tennis, mountain biking, baking, and spending time with her husband and dogs in her free time.

We are pleased to announce this year’s Fundraising Project for the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation. As you are probably aware, our own member Gail Nystrrom is involved with several voluntary activities, and has been successful in funding some of them. Her most recent endeavor, “Mi libro es mi amigo” (My book is my friend), has a specific goal: to motivate children to read, write, study, and create their own art by using the book provided, thus becoming less dependent on the Internet via their cellular phones. Such program is now a reality in several schools.
Gail’s new project, which we hope to be able to sponsor with the help and generosity of our members, involves a “book/diary/storyteller” for abused women, young and old. In this particular case, the gifted book has the format of a diary, with blank pages for the women to write their own stories or whatever they feel about the abuse experiences they suffer, be it in recent days or as a constant in their lives. The book also has some artwork designed by a local artist and is included in a package with several handmade crafts, provided by local women.
Gail is asking for financial help to pay for the paper and the bounding of the diaries. An estimated $500 will provide enough to produce 50 books. According to Gail, “the rest of the contents of the kit -an angel doll, some postcards, a bookmark, the envelope to put it all in, as well as the instruction manual, are already complete and The Foundation paid the women of La Carpio to prepare these items”.
So, let’s be proactive and donate as much as we can for another round of applause for our Organization and for the completion of this important tool for abused women.
